I'm going to stand up for all my fellow "ski's"!   :)

It's pretty easy to overrun a country when you launch a complete surprise attack with superior equipment and numbers and then tag team with an equally impressive military force 17 days later (the Soviet Union).  Frankly, I don't recall too many other European countries fairing much better even with adequate warning until they all banded together.  Not only that, but Poland NEVER formally surrendered.

Plus, if it weren't for Polish cryptographers, it would have taken much longer to crack the enigma machine, which was arguably one of the greatest steps towards allied victory.

    So you're welcome!  :p

    :)

Here's a little light reading for those who think Poland just rolled over and died in the first month of the war.

I have to agree with you on that one.  I didn't read the light reading stuff, but I know for a fact that Poles did contribute to the Allied War Effort.  One really cool incident was when they smuggled and entire V2 rocket out of Poland for the British scientests to disassemble and study.  Then, no one can forget Operation Market Garden, where a Polish Airborne Brigade landed and engaged in heavy fighting around the village of Driel.  Too bad they got slaughtered trying to cross the Rhine. . . but then again, so did the British thirty corps. . .   (The only complaint I have about Polish soldiers is that they shot German prisoners. . . alot.  But then again, the Germans killed millions of Poles, so a few thousand SS and Wehrmacht personnell really can't compare to the German atrocities.  Just thought I would put that out there though)

But yeah, the Polish definetly helped out.  But if you want to talk about standing up to the Soviet Union and overwhelming numbers. . . look north.  FINLAND!!!  Talkin' about a different type of "ski"

    Re: World at War 2

Poland made some huge contributions to the Allied victory during WW2. The country was in a unique position at the start of the war and they did quite a few things before they were overrun and even some things after.

One of the biggest contributions was virtually handing a working Enigma to the British along with the experts they had. How they got the people and the machine out of the country is a story by itself. The Poles did a lot of the early initial work sorting out the Enigma and this allowed the Allied effort to progress that much faster when they were able to skip ahead. This is one of those things that is glossed over or ignored in a lot of history  texts. Some of the Polish work was before there was really a world war so it gets overlooked. The years leading up to WW2 paint some interesting pictures and you have to wonder what were many of the worlds leaders thinking at the time.

We could possibly work something of the sort into the WAW2 game. Which also reminds me of a rather famous quote. "Gentlemen do not read other people's mail." It was in reference to code breaking activities. Up to you to figure out who said it and hopefully I remembered it correctly. :) So, as commanding general... do you open that letter or not? ;)

Oh and someone print up a map of Europe for Chappy so he can see where the other Poland is. :)

    CryptWolf

P.S. The poles are also the ones who brought us reverse Polish notation in calculators in case anyone remembers those.. :) It really was invented by a umm... Polish guy. :)
