    Paintball in the Rain

With all the rain we have been getting lately I felt it was a good time to post this

Tips from Action Pursuit Games, December 2006

    1. Wear a visor on your goggles that you normally wouldnt wear.  This doesnt apply as much to scenario games as it does to speedball becasue most people wear a visor for scenario play.

    2. Take off your Speed Feed.  Once again this applies more to speedball but I have seen some at scenarios.  If you dont take off the speed feed the paint inside your hopper will become a sticky quagmire of ruined paint.

    3. Tape up the porting on your barrel.  You dont want water seeping down into your barrel and messing with your accuracy.

    4. Do not stick your hand in a bag of paint while they are wet.  I'm sure we have all seen the swollen up paintballs from water.  If they swell up like that in your loader they will break creating a mess or they will just swell a little and jam it up, but if they do get through that they will most likely break in your barrel.  If they are only slightly damp they wont shoot straight anyways.

    5. Oversliding. Start your slides earlier so you dont overslide a bunker. Watch for people going to a bunker for they will likely overslide.  This one doesnt apply as much to scenario players but every once in a while it can.

So I hope these tips help while playing in the rain and just to give them some more credibility they came from pros Ron Phipps of New York NRG, Eric Dearman of Atlanta Predators, Chris Bazzi, and Leo Rabago of The OC Bushwackers.

I taped my porting last time I played in the rain. It was so loud it hurt my ears. lol

    Re: Paintball in the Rain

You can always break out a standard non ported barrel for rain play.  I keep my original autococker barrel for just suck occassions.  It isn't all that loud with a low pressure setup.

Additionally if you can find a hooded jacket, rainponcho, etc use it.  Put the mask on first then cover the mask visor with the hood.  This will help keep water from finding its way in the lens.  Fog can be removed by running a fan or whatnot, but actual drops of water on the inside of the lens can be a killer to your game.

Most of you have seen my DIY cover on the top of my mask.  Is made from a water prrof material for just that reason.  Ever since installing it rain days are no longer a bother to me.  Atleast it doesn't rain sideways here like in florida.

another thing i forgot to mention is a baseball cap worn with the bill facing forwards, make sure it goes over top the mask lens so you dont get water down into your goggles

I found that it helps to have a wash towel tucked into a pocket or in the side of your pants, that way you can wipe your mask off or unmuddy your hands.  It only works for the first game or so.  Thats why I always bring about three.

I put a few paper towels in seperate zip lock bags to keep the clean ones clean and dry.

    Re: Paintball in the Rain

taping your barrel porting is BS.

With my gun i did it when it was snowing and it caused the balls to break in the barrel, i couldnt get two shots off without a break. So i took off the tape and it shot perfectly fine.

    Re: Paintball in the Rain

Tapeing your barrel shouldnt effect balls breaking or not, it was probly your gun acting stupid.

For those people with freak kits or 2-piece All-American barrels they make a Rain Front. It's an All-American front minus the porting.

i would only play in the raine with my spyder. with the barrel tapped i wouldnt bring my electronic marker out in the rain

You gas up the marker, put on the gloves, strap on the mask, and walk onto the field. It doesn't matter that you failed a test, that your girlfriend broke up with you last night, or that you got a ticket on the way there... Your world is right for the next couple of hours, this is your heaven on earth... Live it... Love it... Paintball.
