Re: Pros and Cons of the World at War
You don't understand Moss, the whole scenario was about the gold. Had the scores been close though the city flags and base flags could have made a whole lot of difference. The reason the Germans lost so much is they spent All their Gold. Not only did you buy Mercs 3 times (60,000) but also Rome bought a rocket launcher to deal with the tank (20,000) So you lost 80,000 points right there. No doubt the Germans during the first game were bringig in gold like it was going extinct, but You had a bad Negotiator who spent it all, the only change i'm thinking of making in that regard is having it so only the General can purchase.

Re: Pros and Cons of the World at War
For those who didn't read it.
From the Official Journal of 13th Demi Brigade: French Foreign Legion.
April 1944
If hell was a place on earth then thats where we currently find ourselves deployed. They say greed makes men crazy, if thats true then this whole area is teeming on the edge of insanity. The rest of the world is at war, Axis vs. Allies, at least thats the way it was supposed to be. Here, this ravaged place in the middle of insignifigance, no such alliances exist. This whole area is teeming with Gold, nuggets as big as your fist just lying on the ground. Here money talks, friends and enemies alike fight for it tooth and nail, the gold they take here helps fund the real war back home. The best soldiers in the world have been sent here along with the best technology and equipment their goverments could spare. America, Germany, Japan and England, they are all here desperate for gold, desperate for wealth. For the Americans and the English it means enough money for something called "Overlord" or so we hear, for Germany and Japan it means survival......And for us...we don't care who wins, as long as we get paid.

Re: Pros and Cons of the World at War
I played as a German & I had a great time, regardless of the score. Clearly we won the overall "paintball" game, but got crushed in the "Hide-n-seek" (gold) game. We never really emphasized the gold finding aspect while we standing at our base waiting for the matches to start, if we did I missed it - everything was about pushing hard to the city, negotiators were to find as much gold as they could.
I remember reading in another post that someone kept buying the merc's without Rome knowing it, that sucks. I know he had a radio but I don't remember if both our negotiators did, if not, they should have to make sure the communication was clear on what he wanted purchased.
The gold wasn't real so it's not like the Japanese army can use their gold for anything other than building a wall! Like I said though, final points aside, Germany rocked the town all day...

Re: Pros and Cons of the World at War
The value of the gold was exactly why I advised my General not to spend it. I was VERY happy he didn't. Don't get me wrong, those Mercs were great for capturing positions, however the point value wasn't worth the cost. I think you said it perfect moss500 its like trading a $100 bill for a $20. That is precisely why (for the most part) we ignored the flags and went for the gold (or at least anyone who was working direct with me).
I do agree the flags should have been worth a bit more, but like Chappy said, it was all about the gold. Instead of thinking of it as "thats dumb, the gold was worth too much" next time think about what the real objective is, not what you expect it to be. In the end scenario paintball comes down to one of a few things, whether it is a matter of holding/attacking a fixed position or whether its gathering something from on the field is irrelevant, its all about the objective that is worth all the big points.
Rome: I certainly feel for you on the ordering of Merc's without your permission, brings back bad memories of Tet...

Maybe next year will be more about the property and less about the bling.....We shall see....
This battle may be done, but The War is far from over.

Re: Pros and Cons of the World at War
Yeah, when the horn blew for the second half the majority of my German countrymen made a dash for the city and never looked back. We were left with maybe 3-4 guys guarding the flag and may be another 10-12 of us attacking the British flag over and over again. The couple of times we went back to respawn, there was zero action by the flag. I think the guys finally got bored and walked off. We needed to have a radio at the flag site to call for replacements. Overall, we could have used more Germans in the Southern part of the field and we probably could have captured and held the Brit flag. If we were kicking that much but in the city, we should have had some peel off and help out in the woods.
Hey Jack, next time bring enough sandwich for everyone.

Re: Pros and Cons of the World at War
I liked the gold... though I might have had it scattered more across the field and wouldn't have allowed negotiators to pick it up because I think part of the excitement would have been trying to collect that stuff while under fire. Setting up fire teams to cover a few guys trying to haul a yellow boulder out of town would have been great. :) By the way... I thought the yellow brick embedded in the wall outside of the airfield was funny... As long as we're on the topic of gold, I'm going to get to the part of these games that I like the best. Recalling stories. Personally, I had a terrific negotiator who is probably one of the prime reasons we ended up doing as well as we did. Josh, or "Funkie" of 1st Strike was able to convince every single team to turn over at least a little bit of their gold to us. At the start of the game, I sent him over to establish communications with our 1st ally, Japan. On his way there and without my knowledge he came up with the brilliant idea of "selling" Japan a communications channel to talk to the US. I would have been willing to talk for free, but whoever he discussed it with over at the Japan tent was willing to pay two bricks to talk to us. :) Though funny, I initially kind of felt bad because I really wanted to base the arrangement on mutual trust and understanding. Naturally, as events unfolded later in the morning, this feeling went away. /:) Towards the end of the 1st half, he ran up to the British HQ in a panic holding his bag out with a few gold bricks in it and shouted, "we've only got 20 minutes left to get our gold to the the black market, otherwise it's worthless!" As the bag blocked the view of his armband, nobody bothered to ask what team he was one and the Brits promptly handed their gold out the door to him. The story I heard later from some Brits was that he had walked in and stolen the gold, but this was certainly not the case. I suspect somebody was trying to save face. :) From what I understand, Militia Man was understandably upset when he got back and said something to the effect of "I leave you guys alone for five minutes and look what happens!" Lastly, during the second part of the day, he was in the supply yard shoving bricks into his bookbag when a couple of Germans walked over to him and dumped a few in as well. One German asked him, "Does this count for both Germany and Japan, or only Germany?" Funkie replied, "well, since you've given it to me, I'm gonna take it to America!" I think Funkie had more fun that day playing without a gun. ARC, the negotiator role was certainly a unique twist and I think 1st Strike may end up using a version of it for the Band of Brothers game in September...

Considering the value of gold, there would be no point in
capturing anyone’s flag. The entire team effort should be devoted to
gathering gold, not fighting. There's really no point in even defending
your main flag once you consider how valuable the gold is. Basically, the
negotiators controlled the game. If you had one or two careless people on
your team blowing the gold on mercenaries, you lost-this is the main problem I
have with the whole gold concept.

Re: Pros and Cons of the World at War
This was a great game. Gold was fun to try and gather, carry, and take to base all while under fire. Great twist and alot of work. Those who carried alot will agree. Black market great idea and i think this kinda thing should be add to more games and let teams buy like case of paint with points or even smoke/paint greanades great twist though. As for arm band the duck tape would work alot better i think due to the width it would be easier to see. And adding tanks, shield's, gold, props, and objectives is what scenario ball is about.
If you want to just hold the town reishstag? would be the best game i believe. Maybe they could do a Monopoly stlye game and the real estaste will make all the difference. That be cool. Anyways great set up.
And thanks Battlefront and the Arc troopers for all the new work on the field and all the planning of the game.
Thanks to our Jap general for not playing all day and ordering us around. great job.
And thank you all the people who carried gold for our team, ecspecially the girl negotiator. Much respect.
And thanks to everyone that showed up, played fair, and contributed to a grat day. Possible my best day a BF yet.
