OPERATION TORCH
9 a.m. – 11 a.m.
There will be 7 German flags flying. Ludendorf, Reichstag, Flak Tower, Mt. Suribachi, Seelow Heights, Remagen Bridge and the Bank. Each flag that the Germans have up at the end of the scenario will be worth 100 points. Each flag that is down at the end of the scenario will earn the Americans 100 points. No doubt some of these flags will be raised and dropped several times during this operation, but it’s who has what position when the game times out that counts!
Small numbers of German and French troops will be stationed to initially defend all their flag positions. The bulk of the German forces will begin the scenario from the Jap HQ and bridge, and their overall objective is to defend, recapture and maintain control of as many flag stations as possible until the end of the battle.
Americans will land on Omaha against only token resistance from German and French troops stationed near their flags that overlook the beach. Americans must move quickly to take as many positions as possible before German reinforcements arrive. American have the same objective as the Germans….to control as many flag stations as possible when the game ends.
The French can permanently switch to either the American or German army at any time, but MUST choose one army or the other one hour into the game.
MONTE CASSINO
11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
The entire German strategy during their Italian campaign was to conduct a slow, painful and costly fighting withdrawal up the Italian peninsula using several prepared defensive lines. In this scenario, the Germans will begin in very strong defensive positions along the Gustav Line which will include Heartbreak Ridge, the Jap HQ and bridge, and the 3rd Marine HQ. (3 flags 25 points each) All German casualties on the Gustav Line will be required to fall back to their second line of defense, the Cisterna Line, which will include Mt. Suribachi, the Seelow Heights and the tank revetments and Ludendorf Tower. (3 flags 25 points each) The final defensive position for the Germans will be the Abby at Monte Cassino, which is our Banc complex. German casualties from the Cisterna Line will redeploy to this position and set up for the final and decisive phase of this battle. (1 flag 400 points) The Germans are never on offense during this scenario. Their goal is a fighting withdrawal that nets them as many of the 700 available points as possible when the game times out.
The entire American force will start at Red Cross 3 and they can attack anywhere they want along each German line of defense when it is in play. They cannot attack the second line without taking the first, etc.
LUNCH BREAK
1:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.
We have taken over the Snack Shack and remodeling should be complete by April 19th. Everyone will need the burgers and hot dogs, and plenty of supplies for the next battle.
D-DAY
2:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.
An artillery barrage of 40-50 smoke bombs will launched to cover the American landing on Omaha Beach. These Americans will be required to capture the flags in Sainte Mere Eglise, which will all be positioned around the center of town. (4 flags 100 points each) Two additional groups of American paratroops will be start the battle behind the German lines tasked with capturing and holding 2 key objectives in the German rear. (Can’t say which because the Germans can’t know in advance) These Americans will need to place and hold their flags at these 2 key locations and prevent the Germans from capturing and dropping the American flags. (2 flags 150 points each) In this battle, both armies will be on offense and defense. Just like Torch, whoever controls the flag station when the game times out wins the points for that station.
The Germans can choose to deploy all their forces to repel the Omaha invasion and deal with the Americans in their rear later, or split their forces and attack the Americans on several fronts. Not attacking the American paratroopers may encourage them to attack the Germans in the town, etc. Could be a very chaotic battle.
BATTLE of the BULGE
5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Small numbers of Americans will be defending Heartbreak Ridge and the Jap HQ and bridge locations in advance of the main American force at Bastogne. (2 flags 50 points each) The main German force will attack from Red Cross 3, and another group of Germans will be placed in the woods between Bastogne and the American forward positions at Heartbreak Ridge/JAP HQ. These Germans have the option of attacking towards Bastogne or into the Americans holding Hearthbreak Ridge. (Their job during the real battle was to disrupt American communications, and this could have the same effect) American casualties will fall back to either Bastogne, where there will be a 200 point flag flying from the Supply Depot, or Antwerp (Omaha Beach). Depending on the number of total points the Germans have for the day, they may want to bypass Bastogne and head directly for the 400 point flag at Antwerp (Omaha) American casualties in Bastogne and Antwerp will fall back to Red Cross 1 where they will form Patton’s 3rd Army. Patton will join the fight during the last 30 minutes of the scenario…assuming it lasts that long. In this scenario, once a flag is down….it stays down.
